Building Better Care
The current Hospital building was officially opened in the year of 1977. Besides regular maintenance there has been no major renovations except for the ICU department in the year of 2011 and adaptions to the Operating Rooms in order to meet European guidelines.
In May of 2014 the official groundbreaking ceremony was held and the necessary preparations have taken place for construction of the first phase which comprises the extension of the Hospital including a new bed tower, a Central Utility Plant and a Medical Office Building with a total new construction surface of approx. 15.447 m². After this first phase, renovation of the current building will take place. These two phases are expected to take a total of 48 months. The construction and renovation of the Hospital has been made possible by the Government of Aruba, the Hospital, Aruba Investment Bank (AIB), and the private-public development agency Stichting Onroerend Goed Aruba (SOGA). The purpose of the project is to improve medical attention for Aruba’s citizens and visitors, making the Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital a top-level hospital.
